Past & Present

The 1990s

On 23rd September 1990, our new studio complex at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital was opened by Rebecca Storm - our president at the time. This really heralded a new dawn for the organisation as, for the first time, we had a purpose-built building from which to operate.

Fund raising continued, this time for a new outside broadcast vehicle. We were incredibly fortunate and eternally grateful to receive an anonymous donation of £11,500 which helped us to complete this project.

It wasn't all fund raising in the 90s, however, as Hospital Radio Bedside continued to work hard to increase public awareness. In 1994, we commenced our first 28-day broadcast on the FM frequency. HRB FM was a resounding success and was repeated again in 1995 and 1997.

Combining both fund raising and publicity, Hospital Radio Bedside decided to open a charity shop in Boscombe - selling items donated by the public to raise funds and awareness. The shop has been a remarkable success and the organisation now manages two shops - one at the original Boscombe site and another in Parkstone.
